UKRI`s Open Access Directive stipulates that compliant magazines must offer either a gold “Open Access” option (by paying the publication fee) or an open access green option (if the accepted final version of an article is self-archived online). Gold Open Access Authors can choose to publish in a fully open access journal or in a subscription journal that offers the Open Access option, onlineOpen.
Open access Gold articles must be published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license. Open Green Access If a UKRI-funded author decides not to pay for Gold Open Access, the author must archive the accepted version of the article himself after a 12-month embargo period (from the first online publication) or after a 24-month embargo on authors funded by AHRC and ESRC. Note: this will be cancelled if the Green Directive “Open Access” offers the review a reduced embargo. For periodicals that do not offer an open access option to gold, the embargo period is reduced to 6 months for authors funded by UKRI`s STM TIPs or 12 months for authors funded by AHRC and ESRC.
